The Fossa

We have a membership to the zoo. This means that any time we want, we can stop by - For an hour, 30 minutes or the day. Connor's physical therapy takes us to that part of town twice a week right now so we've been stopping in once a week. Last week we visited the reptile building. On our way out we took a route we usually miss and saw some really cool things. Some were old friends, like the giant anteater. Everyone needs a giant anteater - especially in our part of the country. We also made a new friend. The Fossa. This guy was way cool, we watched him for about 15 minutes as he strutted around his pen and climbed some trees.

It was really neat to find an animal that I wasn't aware of but it also gave us a chance to have a really in depth conversation about what it means to be an endagered animal. I love to homeschool! My kids learn so much! I fully intend to continue in teaching mode even when they officialy have other "teachers".

When we were driving to church this morning we passed a newly created wet land area. Michael started talking to the boys about it & Connor was able to conversate about wetlands and the need for more protected areas for endangered animals. The wetlands are actually a water recycling project (http://www.ntmwd.com/re-use_info.html) but Connor was able to grasp the idea of protecting land for uses other than commercial. Cool beans!
Maybe, we have some animal activists on our hands. Well, only one issue at a time guys! Connor has already decided to be the spokesperson for recycling in our neighborhood. Have you seen Wall-E??? Connor says he wants to make sure our planet doesn't end up full of trash! You go my little man!
