Alley gardening

Our alley garden is coming along nicely. As long as the city or our neighbor doesn't come along and mow it down & no vehicles run over the trailing vines that venture onto the pavement - we'll have some nice plants. We've actually had the best success growing veggies in our alley - who would've thunk it? Our yard grows a great lawn & beautiful flowers but our alley is the garden winner. Cayden loves to eat peas & we've planted a ton of them. They are blooming now and we're looking for pea pods any day. After all my angst over the past 2 years with watermelon plants, I decided to go ahead and throw out some more seeds. The plants are coming along nicely but I don't expect much. Keep my expectation low & who knows what will happen?!?!
Our artichokes are the stars of the garden. The plants are HUGE, the foliage is gorgeous, they don't require ANY care & they continue to put on artichokes. We neglect them & they thrive - my kind of plant!I'm hoping to start some cantaloupes and corn today - again keeping my expectations low. Just hoping to instill the love of gardening in the kids! Of course, a melon or two would be nice....
