Zoo day!

Today was zoo day. We got there early - 9:05. We wanted to beat the heat - we didn't quite beat it but we stayed until 1 & we were done! The big cats were walking about in the morning shade - usually we don't see them moving about. We saw Gypsy, the new elephant.

3 active beautiful giraffes. Kangaroos jumping about - we're only seen them laying down, so that was cool. Lemurs yelling & monkeys swinging.

We went into see the Ghosts of the Bayou - the albino alligators & saw some lively snakes in there too. Apparently, just for us, today was snake day. We were all along in the reptile building at 9:30 this morning and the snakes were moving and grooving. The boys were fascinated & I was just slightly creeped out! The black and green Mambas were trying to slither up the glass & then through their trees. The King Cobra was busy digging all around with its head & the rattlesnakes were sticking their forked tongues out at us.

We also stopped by the nature exchange & the boys racked up some more points with fish bones found at Lake Ray Hubbard. They traded for some pretty shells & a couple chunks of Pyrite. The zoologist spent time telling us all about fish bones - it was interesting - fish skulls have many pieces unlike ours. She also let the boys look at everything under big microscopes.

We played in the water, said hello to the new dog in the Children's zoo, made some sun catchers, rode the carousel and then called it a day. After the zoo, we stopped at Connor's school to pick up his supply list. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! He's really starting school soon! I can't believe it! I'm sort of nervous. I hope he loves it!

Sounds like fun! A lot has changed since we were there last.

I'm sure Connor will have fun on his first day! I can't wait to hear about it!
