The pine wood derby car creations

Connor's cub scout pack had a Pine Wood Derby last Friday nigth. It was a blast. Wait, this post is about the creation of the cars, I'll post later about the actual derby.
So, the kit the boys recieve is simply a block of wood, 4 black wheel, and 4 nails (for axels). They then use their imagination to create their derby car - within certain length, width and weight limits of course. Connor and Michael went to a scout friend's house to use their derby creation station. Connor decided to make a wedge car w/weights in the sides & his main concern was that it be a Pokemon car. A few days later, he decided to paint the car red & then he found a Charmander to drive. A few days later the windshield idea popped up & Michael helped create one that suited Charmander's needs. The day before the races, it was decided that Charmander's name would be painted on the car & his car # would be 10. This process was so fun & the car turned out just like Connor wanted - very awesome indeed!!!y cool.
Cayden's car was totally his design. It wasn't legal for the races but he loved it all the same. His design also evolved over several days. He first decided to use crayon to color ~fire~ on the top of the car. Then he found some shiny packaging to reuse as bumpers and a bottle lid for a spare wheel. Next came the tacks...and they came and came and came..........He decided to call his car "Attack of the Tacks" I would have to say, his car was extremely popular at the Derby and it never even raced the track! When told that he could race in the outlaw races, if he would modify his tack placement, he decided his car was just to darn cool for the track & left it the way it was - it was so cool, he got enough joy just admiring it.

Ha! Love those Derby cars! Those are very cool and so imaginative. How awesome it is to see your child with a vision and then watch it come to life...like little engineers!

I can attest to the cuteness of these cars. They are awesome and the boys did have a ball with them. I won't tell you who came in 2nd. Kudos to Cayden for choosing to keep his original design.
