T.V. Dinners

Did you eat TV dinners growing up? I remember them well & not with a lot of fondness. I always went for the salisbury steak or the enchilada dinner, if I had a choice. Well, we walked through the frozen section of the grocery store & my boys were totally amazed at the T.V. dinners. They made like they had been deprived and sheltered away from the world - how come we hadn't eaten any of these delicious meals before? I could've told them of my many experiences with T.V. dinners and how home cooked food really is tastier and much more nutritious BUT they wouldn't have listened SOOOOOO I saved my breath. They were so in love with the packaging and the colors and oooohhhhh aaaaahhhhh the 'desserts' in the little trays. How could I, the wonderful mom that I am, deny my boys the experience?!?! We, looked through the many choices and found the beautiful meals just for kids. The Kid Cuisine packaging is to die for! Le tme tell you, bright colors and pudding with sprinkles and color change packets - wow! So, after much deliberation - choices are slim for vegetarians - the boys both decided upon cheese pizza w/cheese stuffed crust, a side of corn and pudding. I think I would have gone for the Shrek mac & cheese - those green Shrek head pastas looked 'really' tempting.
With a box dinner for each boy, we merrily skipped to the check out counter. I must say, I was ready for the boys to eat these meals and realize how lucky they are that we cook at home and offer them such a variety of foods. When we got home, we popped those suckers right in the microwave - the preffered method of cooking, per the package, and the boys sat at the table with anticipation. I laughed to myself, ha ha ha, this will fix them. I just knew they would never ask for these darned things again & gladly sit down to dinner tomorrow evening. Boy was I wrong!!!!! Connor began eating and exclaiming "This is the best corn ever! I don't know where they got this corn but it is good." Both boys ate every bit of food in thsoe little trays without a single complaint. Cayden finished his 'meal' and told me "Yum! I am going to eat these for breakfast, lunch and dinner." Looks like Michael and I better budget in a bigger freezer & start buying those by the case load. Dinner's gonna be quick and easy from now on. Thank goodness Kid Cuisine uses real cheese and includes a full vegetable serving - no more worries here at our house! We're set in the nutrition department.
