Connor went in to the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders yesterday for a quick visit. While he has a port, and its not in regular use, it must be accessed and flushed once a month. We hadn't been to the Center since his last surgery and so it was a great opportunity to get Connor's Beads of Courage strand updated. If you don't know what Beads of Courage are you can visit their web site & learn more. Let me just say this, the program is fabulous and Connor is very excited each time he gets to add beads. It adds a positive bump to otherwise difficult and tiring situations.
Connor added several beads after all he endured for this last surgery. I don't know which is my favorite, but the Ying & Yang he chose as Special Recognition for a large challenge is WAY COOL!
Connor also went through several rounds of chemo in an attempt to stop the growth of two brain tumors. The medication did not work & the tumors continued to grow and cause problems. This is what lead to this last surgery. Since Connor completed the Avastin treatments, he was awarded the Purple Heart bead. I can think of nothing more appropriate for this guy. My eyes well up with tears each time I think of what he has been through and what might yet be to come - the purple heart is a fabulous tribute to his ability to endure and overcome!
Connor can easily make my heart smile! Yesterday, after adding more beads, he said "I'm going to need a new strand soon so I can add my next set of beads." Such an innocent beautiful way to look at things!
