Last week I planted cream peas (or field peas) and cucumbers. I checked them today & they are all popping up. So exciting. Since those plants seem to be coming along, I decided to try my luck with something else.....Beets! Yay! I love love beets. No one else in my house likes them. So, I'll be sharing them with my beet loving friends if they do well. All three types of seeds I've planted so far should do well through the Fall. Or so my cousin Bailey tells me - I bought my seeds from her at the Cordell Feed Store in Kaufman. I think they go by the calendar in the Farmer's Almanac. Who wants to argue with the Almanac? Not me!
Of course, if we keep up these 103 temperature, I may have to just go ahead & plant tomatoes. I will admit, since its been so warm, I went ahead & planted basil. Basil is a warm weather crop so I figured, What the heck! Hey, maybe I should go crazy & plant watermelons. Wouldn't that be great? A winter watermelon! Yum!
