Field Trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All aboard the field trip train! Didn't you just love field trips when you were in school? I took the boys on a really cool field trip last week. We visited a local radio station KEOM 88.5

My boys love love love this radio station. They play 70's music and its jammin. Know what's more fun than a barrel of monkey???? Two little boys singing grease songs & beboppin' to "Mr Big Stuff" in your back seat. We have such a great time listening to the music they play.

The station also has some great segments like wondrous words, recipes, and oddities. The boys like the segments and have learned lots of new words and interesting tidbits from them. They are listening!!!! We've even tried a few of the recipes. Neither of the boys wanted to try the stuffed zucchini recipe. Darn!!!! It sounded good to me!

One of the coolest things about the station is that local high school students run it. I mean they really runt he station. Of course, there are grown educated adults that oversee things but the kidds know how to do it all. They put together traffic & weather reports and report live, they also use all the boards and set up computers with the music. I wish I knew more descriptive radio wprds btu it looked like those kid swere running the Enterprise to me. Computers & machines and microphones everywhere. The boys felt right at home. We were allowed into the broadcasting studio & the boys were even quiet during the LIVE announcements. How's that for good behavior??? My heathen can behave when they need to. The students working at the station were friendly and more than willing to tell the boys all about their jobs and the equipment. It was great!

Ms. Brooks (AKA adult in charge) gave us the full tour. She is so sweet & patient. What an asset to their program! She took the boys into a recording studio and let them "broadcast" too. Cayden was giving traffic reports and giving the station call letters - without any prompting. I'm telling, you gotta watch what you say around these guys, they're listening and they repeat it. It was so cute to hear Cayden saying "KEOM 88.5" into the microphone.

At the end of our tour, Ms. Brooks gave the boys all kinds of goodies. They got chip clips, pencils, bracelets and t shirts with KEOM on them. They love it! Connor wears his bracelet most of his waking hours.

All the tehcnology wowed Connor. He was so intrigued by all the computers and gadgets. He couldn't get enough. He has already asked to go back again. I think he has about a million questions he thought up after we left. Ms. Brooks was very kind and answered all of Connor's questions. He really learned a lot and had such a great time! Every time we hear Carly giving the traffic report Connor reminds me that we actually met her at the station. Too dang cute!

Remember everyone, tune your radios to 88.5 - if Connor hasn't already done it for you! If you don't live in our area you can always catch their podcasts at www.keom.fm

I'm so glad they had such a great experience. I think next week we may venture out to the federal reserve & watch them make money. The we have a trip planned to the symphony - they have special seesions for elementary aged kids. Are we cool or what? Lots of learning to do!!!!
