Petrified log @ Fair Park

So, we were out at Reptile Fest on Saturday. Enough said about that! No, seriously, it was very cool. BUT what I found and was most interested in was this huge petrified log out by the lagoon.
It was full of unusual textures and colors and even some crystals.
What exactly is pertified wood? Our sons insist it is just wood & that we're crazy. They also don't grasp the concept of using trees to make furniture. I mean really, our dining table is not the color of the tree out in the front yard. Enough said!
In case you're curious I have included an official definition of petrified wood: Petrified wood is a type of fossil. It consists of fossil wood where all the organic materials have been replaced with minerals while retaining the original structure of the wood.
