We've had a great day celebrating Connor's 9th birthday.
The day began on a sour note though. He was not at all happy that today was also the beginning of STAAR testing for elementary students. He actually had to attend school on his birthday & take a test. It all worked out though, he got to leave as soon as he was done, which was around 10:00. He also had to endure a follow-up appointment with his plastic ophthalmologist. The stitches are being left in his right eye for one more week. This means, no glasses for another week. It will be nice to have the stitches out but the doctor says the longer the eye stays closed, the better his chance for some type of prosthesis.
With all the drudgery discussed, I'll tell you about the fun! Dad took off work early and we had lunch, per Connor's request, at Chuck E Cheese. It was 2 hours of glorious pizza & video gaming for the boys. There was even enough pizza left for dinner - yahoooo!!!
Late in the day, we went to visit our sweet friend Jared Digby at Baylor-Dallas. Connor had really wanted to get out there & today was a perfect chance. Jared opened his eyes & acknowledged us being there. What an awesome present for Connor.
Oh yeah, Connor is hyped about his birthday gifts. We bought him a new bike. Way way cool! It's a 20" mountain bike so now we've got to figure out how to install the training wheels. Guess we'll save bike riding for another day. Keep Kids Connected sent Connor a netbook so we had that for him today too. What an awesome organization! They give netbooks/laptops to kids with life threatening illnesses. So, needless to say, it has been a super day.
Connor will get to do more celebrating this weekend. He'll be having a birthday party - check back for those pictures. I promise to keep you updated.
