If you are anything like me, you forget about the ceiling fans. One day you look up; usually when someone is visiting; and to your horror, there is dust clinging to every inch of their surface. You stand frozen in your spot, not knowing whether to turn the fan on (or off) or whether to just ignore it. Oh, the agony! My past experience has been to ignore it. At least I don't mention it to the guest. What I do is obsess over it & probably don't make a very good hostess. People think I'm aloof but really its just my ceiling fans! HAHAHAHA! In my quest to find a better way to clean my blades I came across the following article & thought I would share it with you. I haven't done this yet, but plan to the next time I clean those boogers!
Smart Solution: Clean a Ceiling Fan with a Pillowcase
In the past we've talked about cleaning chandeliers with an umbrella,
but this tip for taking care of your ceiling fans simply takes the
cake. There's nothing we love more than a project that cleans up after
itself without any fuss, muss, or chemical based products! The fine folks over at Real Simple have suggested an easy, yet resourceful way to clean your ceiling fan. It's no secret that the tops of the blades, especially this time of year, are working overtime and laden with thick dust. Even though there are all sorts of commercial tools you can use to clean them, they suggest sliding a pillow case over each blade and wiping them clean.
The dust goes in the pillow case and can be repeated until all blades are clean. When you're done, take it outside and shake it to set those dust bunnies free once more!
