I finally got around to making my own dishwasher detergent! Yahoo! I have no clue what the cost breakdown is. That's going to have to be another post. I do know that this is getting my dishes cleaner. That alone is exciting!
Here is the recipe I an using:
1 cup Borax
1 cup washing powder - I use Arm & Hammer brand
1/2 cup citric acid
1/2 cup Kosher salt
Mix together & fill the detergent container on your dishwasher for each load. I may be using too much each time but, her, my dishes are getting clean!
PS: Thanks to my sis-n-law for picking up the citric acid!

How funny! I just texted you about this today so never mind! I made the same recipe and have used it once so far. I also added about three drops of liquid dish soap and tossed in about a 1/2 c of vinegar into the bottom. The only thing I haven't figured out yet, and I guess I'll have to adjust after testing out many loads is the exact amount per load. Do you put it in the prewash and main dispenser? No one really specifies out of the bajillion recipes online if they do both or just the main dispenser.
