El Rio Grande

We finally made it down to visit Peter & Kacey & their kids in the border town of Eagle Pass.  There was so much natural beauty, sunflowers, kids' smiles, cats & trees.  It was also very very hot in the middle of the day, or any time after about 8:30 am & before 8:30 pm!  Glad we made it down before the 'hot' part of the year.  We had a great time.  Kennedy was so sweet to let us have her room for the entire weekend.  We had a comfy place to sleep each night & lots of visiting time during the day.  We made ti out to the Rio Grande for a swim too.  It was great!  The kiddos had a blast playing around.  The boys were really intrigued by the idea of Mexico being so close.

They thought there was some real physical border & in most places there aren't.  Of course, we were able to see the big black fence, camera posted & lots of border patrol but it is still hard to comprehend that people come through on foot seeking refuge.

We visited Peter's church & heard a great sermon that reminded us again of how blessed we are to live in the U.S.  This was a well spent Memorial Day weekend!  We even stopped in to visit Fort Duncan & take in a bit of border history

That looks like so much fun!! I've never been to a border town before. I think it would be interesting for the kids to see the other country with the fence in between since we don't have fences for states. How awesome was it to swim in the Rio Grande? That's so cool!!
